HPM Large Injection Molding Machines

Over 30 years ago, Taylor's HPM Injection Molding Machines Division produced its first hydromechanical two platen
HPM Injection Molding Machine clamping system to meet the plastic industry’s demand for reduced capital cost and floor space requirements. Now that legacy lives on in the Freedom Series...an innovative line of rugged, two platen clamp hydromechanical injection molding machines that meet Taylor's HPM Division standards for dependable performance. Accurate, high-speed clamp velocities, rapid tonnage build-up, flexible stroke and daylight specifications and minimal floor space requirements are all hallmarks of Taylor's HPM Injection Molding Machine Division's hydromechanical technology.

Our proprietary two platen design represents the most advanced clamping technology, with the only retractable tiebars in the industry. Then we added proven, high-speed injection units to produce Injection Molding Machines from 360 to 5,000 U.S. tons that deliver many distinctive production advantages:

  • 40% less floor space required than conventional machines
  • Faster cycles achieved via movement of smaller oil volumes and faster tonnage build-up
  • Greater energy efficiency
  • Excellent stability and parallelism in platen movement and lock-up
  • Material savings allow for competitive pricing
  • Reduced robotic movements

    Retractable Tie Bars,
Only Taylor's HPM Injection Molding Machine Division hydromechanical two platen machines have tiebars that move freely with the moving platen. As the mold opens, the tiebars retract out of the way so you can readily remove large, cumbersome parts and mount molds conveniently and quickly.

Because the clamping cylinders are mounted on the fixed platen, hydraulic connections can be rigidly piped. This eliminates the moving hoses you find on other machines, giving the molder clear access to the nozzle for maintenance and to remove purged resin at start-up. This exclusive Taylor's HPM Division design also provides more room behind the moving platen for the ejector cylinder.

The modular design of Taylor's HPM Division Freedom machines allows for a choice of up to four reciprocating injection units per clamp. The result is optimum machine performance for a specific application. Closed-loop control of injection speed, pack and hold pressure, and screw back pressure is standard.

Reciprocating screw injection units are available from 14 ounces to 1325 ounces (400g to 37,530g). Injection rates of up to 500 in3/sec. (8200 cm3/sec.) can be attained by including optional accumulators.

For two-stage injection, plasticizing and injection functions are uncoupled by a separate reciprocating injection unit and shooting pot. This allows for larger shots with smaller screws by continuing the plasticizing process throughout the cycle, resulting in higher plasticizing rates. An energy efficient solution for smaller shots is accomplished by running the reciprocating injection unit separately. Insulated ceramic heater bands and closed-loop control of the feed throat temperature are available as options.

Control Systems,

High speed parallel processing CPU’s are the heart of all Taylor's HPM Division control systems, providing real-time closed-loop control of injection profiling and barrel temperature.

Injection speed-to-pressure transfer is settable by hydraulic or cavity pressure, time or screw position. Mold set-up data can be stored internally or externally on removable media. Optional on-board SPC (Statistical Process Control) provides graphs of current data and a history of total data. Multi-language capability as well as graphical set-up screens are displayed on a color TFT active matrix high definition flat panel that is bright and easy to read. Color coding of the setpoints and actual values makes their identification fast, and simplifies operation of the controls.
